EU committee OKs single patent co-operation plan

In the latest stage of the long and convoluted journey towards implementing a single EU patent system, the European Parliament's legal affairs committee has voted in favour of allowing a limited number of member states to push ahead with the plan1.

Members of the committee approved a European Commission proposal to proceed under "enhanced co-operation", a rarely used procedure whereby a group of at least nine member states can co-operate on proposed legislation when progress would otherwise be impossible because of resistance from other member states...
